I was quite surprised last week when I read that Oysters & Chocolate are closing their doors shortly. For those who are unfamiliar with O&C, it’s THE site for erotic fiction and the brain child of Samantha Sade and Jordan LaRousse.
When I first came to O&C you could only view stories if you were a member, but it wasn’t that long after I first came in contact with them that they took the locks off of the site and just grew. It was a perfect, sex-positive site that never failed to titillate.
An wonderful anthology followed, as well as a few his & her how-to books. Their second anthology included my story, “Name Your Price,” and featured other great erotica writers including Kristina Wright, Jeremy Edwards, Janine Ashbless, Rachel Kramer Bussel, and my good friend Saranna DeWylde.
Working with Jordan and Samantha was always a great experience. These ladies knew their smut and loved it, and it showed. I will absolutely regret never getting to publish with OC Press, the digital press that spawned from O&C, but for me it was a case of right publisher, wrong time, and I’m a little sad that as I’m getting my smut groove back their doors are closing.
Prior to my work appearing on O&C, I had published at a few other spots but it was when Jordan & Samantha accepted my short “Blackout” that I can say my writing career began. Until that story, I had merely been playing with writing erotica. “Blackout” marked THE story in which I found my voice as a writer, and it couldn’t have found a home anywhere but O&C.
Any success I have from here on out, I can honestly thank Jordan, Samantha and everyone at O&C for playing a big part.
I wish them both the absolute best for the future, and thanks to social media I look forward to watching their individual successes as they unfold.
